On Saturday, March 8, 2025, the Massachusetts Production Coalition (MPC) held their annual Boston Camera Bootcamp at Red Sky Studios. The full day of activities was designed specifically for students and those considering a career behind the camera. Led by Local 600 camera professionals, attendees had the chance to participate in camera demonstrations and hands-on workshops, as well as take in informative conversations about various crafts and equipment within the camera department. Local 600 1st AC Jill Tufts has been a part of the Camera Bootcamp's committee from the get-go. "At its core, the MPC is a group of filmmakers and businesses working together trying to grow the local community. It only makes sense that we step up to educate that community."

David Hartman, Director of MPC, hopes the annual event inspires young people to see career possibilities within the film and television industry. “Collaborating with IATSE Local 600 on the Camera Bootcamp workshop is an invaluable opportunity to introduce young talent in our state to careers in cinematography and teach the fundamental skills of the craft. The dedication of camera professionals to generously offer their expertise and real-world guidance helps demystify the path into the camera department. Their enthusiasm and commitment to share knowledge strengthens our workforce and fosters a more inclusive, dynamic industry. It’s rewarding to see participants leave energized with so many new ideas and connections."

Along with Tufts, Boston-area Local 600 members Matthew Hedges, Assistant, Thomas Bellotti, Camera Utility, and Alex Stevens, Assistant, are among the 2025 Camera Bootcamp program's committee.

"What I love most about the MPC Camera Bootcamp is that I get to bring the joy and challenges of this career to a new generation while reminiscing and bonding with my local Boston film family," says Stevens. Thomas Bellotti adds, "Movie sets are so mysterious and closed off to those who are outside of them, so any chance to learn from the actual people behind the scenes is rewarding for the participants, as well as exciting for the technicians in finding the next generation of talent.”
